Ceramic Mate Cup

The cup is a beautiful, smooth, ceramic mate cup. It is bound in high quality, thick Uruguayan Leather and handstitched by an Artisan.

Stainless Steel Bombilla

The stainless steel bombilla is sleek, long and slender. Stainless steel is the best metal for bombillas because it won’t oxidise, and will last a long while. The mouthpiece is formed by double thickness stainless steel and is curved at the neck so heats up less and is comfortable to use.

The filter head unscrews and splits into two parts and so it is easy to clean. It clips back together before screwing back, which makes it easy to put together

La Merced Yerba Mate Original de Campo

Produced using yerbas that have adapted to growing in meadows and on the red hills of Corrientes. So these conditions give this blend a very particular taste. This is further accentuated by maturing over an extended period of over a year.

La Merced Yerba Mate de Monte

Produced from plants born in areas of lush, natural forests. Hence this variety has a vigorous and wild personality. The abundant rains, the richness of the earth and the high temperatures of the subtropical jungle give the yerba mate an intense flavour. It has slight bitter undertones of pleasant wild spirit.

La Merced Yerba Mate Barbacua

Yerba Mate La Merced Barbacua takes is name from the artisanal drying process in “barbacua” derived from the primitive techniques used by the Guarani Indians. This consists of a slow and dedicated process. Leaves are exposed to the heat of the fire of wood during a whole day. As a result this impresses on the yerba a robust personality and a refined smoked flavor. Sometimes described as rich and chocolaty this yerba is a UruShop house favourite

Limited Edition La Merced Monte & Campo

La Merced Yerba Mate Original Campo & Monte is produced using a mixtures of the yerba used for the two blends. See above for exact descriptions. The resultant blend combines the the smooth of the Campo together with the wild of the Monte and is harmonious and agreeable with subtle wild overtones.

The tradition of drinking yerba mate is such an important part of the South American culture. This is specifically true in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, although in addition it is also enjoyed in other South American countries. Typically, it is drunk from a natural gourd (a hollowed out fruit) used as a cup. It is then sipped through a metal straw known as a bombilla that has a filtered end to separate the infusion from the yerba leaves. This happens while groups of friends and family get together to chat, and enjoy mate together.

With any purchase of loose leaf yerba, full photo instructions will be provided so you know how to brew the perfect yerba mate. So there is no excuse not to brew the perfect yerba mate!
