Paraguayan Yerba Mate Starter Kit
This Yerba Mate Starter Kit comprises of everything you need to start brewing yerba mate. It is a great way to get started with yerba mate or Terere either for yourself or as a gift. You will receive:
- 500g La Bombilla loose leaf yerba mate with stems (con palos, suitable for brewing hot mate or iced terere)
- Ceramic Cup (styled like a natural gourd)
- Stainless Steel Bombilla (straw with filtered end)

La Bombilla is a Paraguayan producer of yerba mate specialising in robus yerba with a superior taste.

The bombilla is a specialist bit of kit required to drink yerba mate. Bombillas are made from stainless steel and resemble a straw with a filter at one end in the shape of a spoon. This helps manipulate the yerba, and in addition the little holes allow liquid through to drink, but not the leaves. It measures 19cm in length
Brewing Your Yerba Mate
The tradition of drinking yerba mate is such an important part of the South American culture, especially in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. One drinks Yerba mate from a natural gourd (a hollowed out fruit) used as a cup however more recently it has become popular to drink yerba mate from ceramic cups which are easier to care for than natural gourds. The resulting infusion is then sipped through a metal straw known as a bombilla that has a filtered end to separate the infusion from the yerba leaves. This happens while groups of friends and family get together to chat, and enjoy mate together. Yerba mate can be prepared hot, which is how it is enjoyed in Uruguay and parts of Argentina and it can also be prepared ice cold, known as Terere, the national drink of Paraguay. Here is how:
It can be tricky to prepare yerba mate, and so for this reason, with any purchase of loose leaf yerba, full photo instructions will be provided on how to brew the perfect mate. So there is no excuse not to brew the perfect yerba mate! If you get it right, your yerba will always taste great, and last twice as long. Above all, practice makes perfect!
