Yerba Mate Large Paraguayan Terere Flask
This traditional Paraguayan Terere flask is a cheerful blue. It has a sturdy handle for serving and another for transportation. The design of the flask is ideal for terere. This is because it has a spout to accurately serve liquid into the recipient and a large opening designed for you to fill the flask with ice, fruit, herbs and water.
Terere is an important social drink mainly enjoyed in Paraguay and also in Argentina and Uruguay. It is an infusion brewed traditionally by filling a guampa with the chopped stems and leaves of Ilex Paraguariensis which is a holly native to South America. A guampa is a cup made from a bull’s horn and has an iconic twisted shape. The liquid to infuse the drink is usually served absolutely ice cold, and can be flavoured with juices, fruits and herbs. In the hot subtropical climates of Paraguay we find this drink is deliciously refreshing. It is normal to enjoy Terere with friends and family with each drinking a serving before passing it along. Having a large flask is ideal to store a large quantity of liquid, ice and flavours, and enjoy the Terere for many many rounds.

How to prepare Terere
See our blog how to prepare a delicious Terere. You can mix and match, but essentially you’ll need:
- Yerba
- Mate Cup
- Bombilla
- Ice
- Flask or jug
- Water or juice
- Optional – fruit/herbs
Its best to fill the recipient to around 1/3 full of yerba, then add in ice. In your terere flask, add plenty more ice, and fruit/herbs is desired. Fill the flask with water or juice. Insert the bombilla into the recipient and you can serve straightaway, filling with the iced liquid of your choice, sipping until finished, and repeating as desired.
