Description
The Complete Uruguayan Mate Set
This mate gourd and bombilla set brings together the two things every mate drinker needs, matched and ready to use. The gourd is inspired by the classic Uruguayan mate camionero: a wide metal rim, a leather-bound body and a generous capacity for long sessions. The bombilla is made to suit it, with a curved shape that sits naturally against the rim.
The Gourd
The body is high grade double wall stainless steel, which keeps your mate at the right temperature from the first pour to the last. It’s wrapped in black silicone with a leather grain texture and stitched seam detail, so it looks and feels like a traditional hand-stitched leather gourd. Four sculpted feet echo the shape of a natural calabaza and keep it steady on the table.
There’s no curing. The stainless steel interior won’t absorb flavours, crack or go mouldy, and the sleeve wipes clean in seconds.
- Height: 10.5cm
- Opening: 7.5cm
- Widest point: 9cm
- Volume: 280ml
The Bombilla
A polished stainless steel bombilla with a gently curved stem, a flat mouthpiece for comfortable sipping, and a spoon-style filter that keeps the yerba out of your drink. The decorative detail at the top gives it a crafted finish that matches the gourd.
Why Choose a Set?
Buying the gourd and bombilla together means everything is sized to work together. The bombilla’s length and curve suit the depth and wide mouth of the gourd, so you can build your montañita and position the straw easily. It’s a good choice for beginners and makes a ready-to-give gift for anyone who loves mate.
How to Use
- Fill the gourd around two-thirds full with yerba mate.
- Cover the top with your palm, tip it upside down and shake gently to bring the dust to the surface.
- Tilt the gourd so the yerba forms a slope to one side.
- Pour a little cool water into the lower space and let it absorb.
- Insert the bombilla into the wet area, then pour hot water (70–80°C, never boiling) into the same spot.
- Sip, refill and enjoy.

Care
Empty the yerba after each session, rinse the gourd and bombilla with warm water and leave to dry. Wipe the sleeve with a damp cloth. Run hot water through the bombilla now and then to keep the filter clear.
Prefer just the gourd? It’s also available on its own.
