Playadito Yerba Mate, 500g
Playadito is a household name across Argentina, and one of the country’s best-loved yerbas. It has been made since 1926 by the Liebig cooperative in Colonia Liebig, Corrientes, where it is grown, processed and packed at origin. It’s a traditional con palo yerba, with stems, giving a smooth, balanced flavour with low bitterness. That makes it easy-going for newcomers and a long-time favourite with seasoned mate drinkers. A full kilo means plenty of mornings before you need to restock.
The Flask
A 1 litre insulated stainless steel flask built for mate. Its standout feature is the red pico cebador, the precision pouring spout found on mate flasks across Argentina and Uruguay. It lets out a thin, controlled stream so you can pour exactly where you want in the gourd, keeping the yerba dry and the flavour lasting longer. Remove the pico cebador and it pours quickly for tea, coffee or filling a teapot. The sturdy side handle makes it easy to carry, and the screw-on cap doubles as a cup.
The Gourd
The gourd is high grade double-walled stainless steel, which keeps your mate at the right temperature from first pour to last. It’s wrapped in black silicone with a leather grain texture and stitched seam detail, so it looks and feels like a traditional hand-stitched leather gourd. Four sculpted feet echo the shape of a natural calabaza and keep it steady on the table.
There’s no curing needed. The stainless steel interior won’t absorb flavours, crack or go mouldy, and the sleeve wipes clean in seconds.

The Bombilla
A polished stainless steel bombilla with a gently curved stem, a flat mouthpiece for comfortable sipping, and a spoon-style filter that keeps the yerba out of your drink. The decorative detail at the top gives it a crafted finish that matches the gourd.
Why the Pico Cebador Matters
Pouring mate is an art. Too much water too fast and the yerba floods, losing its flavour after just a few refills. The pico cebador controls the flow so the cebador, the person serving, can pour slowly into the same spot each time, keeping the montañita of yerba intact. It’s an everyday essential wherever mate is shared.
How to Brew Argentine Mate
- Fill the gourd around two-thirds full with Playadito.
- Cover the top with your palm, tip it upside down and shake gently to bring the dust to the surface.
- Tilt the gourd so the yerba forms a slope to one side.
- Pour a little cool water into the lower space and let it absorb.
- Insert the bombilla into the wet area, then pour hot water (70–80°C, never boiling) into the same spot.
- Sip, refill and enjoy.

Care
Empty the yerba after each session, rinse the gourd and bombilla with warm water and leave to dry. Wipe the sleeve with a damp cloth. Run hot water through the bombilla now and then to keep the filter clear.
