This straight, stainless steel bombilla is sleek, long and slender. Stainless steel is the best metal for bombillas – slightly heavier than some of the other compounds used, it won’t oxidise, and will last a long while.
The filter head unscrews and splits into 2 parts for ease of cleaning. We recommend buying this item in conjunction with a cleaning brush that can be inserted into the straw to clean it. You can find the bombilla cleaning brush here.
The approximate length of this bombilla is 20 cm so is a fairly long bombilla. This is ideal if you have a large or tall mate cup.
The Bombilla
The bombilla is a traditional straw for drinking yerba mate. The original bombillas were made from bamboo, but nowadays they are typically made from metal. The most popular type is the stainless steel bombilla because it doesn’t oxidise and retains its shine.
The bombilla is a straw that is open at one end and has a filter at the other end. The filter end is inserted into a mate cup of yerba mate and you sip through the top end. The filter prevents the yerba leaves from being drunk.
