Erva Mate Barão Original 500g
Barão is one of Brazil’s most important brands of yerba mate (erva mate). This is the traditional blend of green yerba mate – perfect for making the Brazilian version of mate – Chimarrão. Brazillian yerba, although produced the same plant is quite different to Argentinian, Uruguayan and Paraguayan yerba. Differences in the way the yerba is dried and milled means the blend is bright green with a mixture of mainly very very fine powder, and large stems.
This blend is produced with a special blend of yerba leaves grown in the region of Barão de Cotegipe. The yerba leaves are dried in a rotary dryer, giving a final blend that is matte in consistency and more intense in colour. It has a mild flavour, fresh, herbal and lightly toasted and smoked.
Due to the special powdery blend, Erva Mate Barão is vacuum in a superior standard metallic package for extra freshness
Brewing Your Yerba Mate
The tradition of drinking yerba mate is such an important part of the South American culture, specifically in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, although it is also enjoyed in other South American countries. Typically, it is drunk from a natural gourd (a hollowed out fruit) used as a cup, and then sipped through a metal straw known as a bombilla that has a filtered end to separate the infusion from the yerba leaves.
Making Chimarrao is quite different to regular hot mate. If not approached in the right way, the drink just won’t work, and you might end up with a big mess!
