Metallic Palo Santo Mate Cup and Bombilla Set

Palo Santo is a hardwood native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. Palo Santo Mate cups are popular because this fragrant wood contributes to the flavour, especially when used over time. The bombilla is non-oxidising, curved for comfort of drinking, and can be taken apart for easy cleaning.

This wood is especially fragile, and as such should be cured to prevent splitting. To cure a palo santo mate, you should rub oil or butter on the inside walls. Add yerba mate leave and a small amount of water – enough to wet the leaves only not too much – and leave for a day. This process seals the pores and increases the life of the mate. A Mouthful ???

I'm new to this ritual. But I can't believe any indigenous people would use such a small capacity item, unless the contents were Seriously Powerful and required one mouthful as a dose...... One mouthful and refill rpt,rpt,rpt,rpt.rpt...... Bored yet? I was. Used it once after seasoning carefully with olive oil, 6hrs and Yerba for 72hrs and a further 24hrs to dry..... Can't tell you how frustrating the one slurp and refill process was.... Lovely looking ornament, but seriously, if Yerba Mate was espresso strength I could understand it. But it is not, Yerba Mate is Tea strength.
