Kraus is a family-owned yerba mate producer based in San Ignacio, Misiones, Argentina. The Kraus family has been growing and processing yerba mate since the early 1900s, when European immigrants settled in the Paranaense jungle and began farming the region’s rich red earth.
What sets Kraus apart is their unsmoked drying method. Most yerba mate is dried over wood smoke, but Kraus uses an indirect hot-air system developed by Juan Angel Kraus. Hot air from a boiler circulates through the leaves without direct contact with flame or smoke. The result is a cleaner, milder flavour with no smoky aftertaste, making Kraus a popular choice for newcomers to yerba mate and anyone who prefers a gentler cup.
All Kraus yerba mate is certified organic and fair trade. The family grows their crops without herbicides, pesticides or artificial fertilisers, and actively supports reforestation in the Misiones province. Their range includes traditional blends, pure leaf, flavoured varieties and convenient tea bags.
