Special Selection Canarias Especial Yerba Mate
Brewing Your Yerba Mate Tea
Drinking yerba mate, especially Canarias is a way of life in Uruguay, although it is also enjoyed in many other South American countries. Typically, it is drunk from a natural gourd (a hollowed out fruit) used as a cup. In Uruguay it is popular to use high quality gourds that are bound in leather. The infusion is sipped through a metal straw called a bombilla that has a filtered end to separate the infusion from the yerba leaves. It is normal to see most people in Uruguay walking around with a gourd in one hand, and their flask tucked under 1 arm. So a mate can be served at a moment’s notice!
